Description
Tawny Owl Boxes are typically installed high up in trees to provide a nesting site for these nocturnal birds of prey. It’s important to ensure that the boxes are sturdy and secure to prevent them from falling or being damaged by strong winds.
Using 18mm plywood for the construction of the boxes is a good choice as it provides the necessary strength and durability for the structure. However, the weight of the boxes can make installation challenging, as previously mentioned.
It’s important to ensure that the installation process is carried out safely and that the box is securely fastened to its mounting point. This will help to ensure the safety of both the installer and the Tawny Owls that will eventually use the box.
We don’t recommend that cameras are installed inside the Tawny Owl Box but instead, if monitoring is required, a Trail Camera is the best solution.
The box has a bottom opening secured by hinge pins that are spaced away from the walls to facilitate drainage.
There are two battens on the rear of the box which can be mounted vertically or horizontally depending on how you intend to mount the box. When fitting to a tree the included ratchet straps can be passed under the battens and tensioned to hold the box in place.
